First Fruits of the Season
November has been a busy month for Set Apart!
On the 19th, the team made the drive down to San Diego to get some feedback for our diligently prepared speech events (from apologetics cards to extemp research, interp blocking to platform rhetoric). That evening, after the speech round robin, a number of us attended the annual Harvest Ball at the same church building that hosts CONTROL club meetings. What a memorable opportunity to meet new people, reunite with old friends, and have fun learning a series of old English dances! For a few families, this was their first forensics experience out of club...overall, a good one. :)
The week before, our debaters headed out to Irvine Community College for a debate round robin with four rounds, most of us winning three or more. Everyone gleaned valuable insights for the Veritas Qualifier later in the month, at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. As they say, the proof is in the pudding: out of 10 speaker awards given for Lincoln-Douglas debate, FOUR of them went to Set Apart, including the 1st place award. Lincoln Anderson (4-2), Reagan Anderson (5-1), Lauren Blankenship (4-2), and Zack Seals (5-1) all earned coveted green checkmarks, officially putting them on the path to NITOC.
Firm foundations laid, stakes raised, and tools sharpened...Here we are, Season 2012!
